Planning & Design
Exceptional Home Technologies designed and installed a whole-house audio/video solution as summarized below:
- Prewired the home during the remodel to provide the wire infrastructure to support current and future technologies via conduit
- Installed an equipment rack in the A/V closet to contain most of the A/V and networking equipment
- Installed in-wall panels in the A/V closet to support the A/V distribution throughout the home
- Upgraded the whole-house music system to provide music to 10 rooms/zones
- Installed a family room A/V system including a 5.1 surround sound system
- Upgrade the computer network with an emphasis of whole-house wireless performance
Prewire
The goal of the pre-wire is to provide a wire infrastructure to supports current audio/video technologies and the ability to support future technologies via conduit.
Conduit from the AV closet was run to several locations to provide full coverage all the areas for any future cable installation. In fact, after installation, all the conduit has been used for additional installations.
This project was part of remodel so some existing speaker cables were rerouted to the newly installed AV closet.

Living Room System
The living room system is the main entertainment center of the residence. The homeowner wanted good sound performance but with minimal impact on the room decor. Therefore using thin on-wall speakers was the perfect solution. These speakers provide the acoustic benefits of a stand-alone speaker but with the appearance of an in-wall speaker. Five on-wall speakers and one in-wall subwoofer was installed. All the equipment was installed in the equipment rack located in an adjacent room.
A sophisticated remote control was installed to provide an easy to use system.
Equipment Rack
The equipment rack contains most of the equipment for the installation including:
- The family room system – A/V receiver, subwoofer amplifier, source components, and control system
- The networking equipment – Router, wireless controller to support multiple access points, network switches
- Music amplifiers to support the 8-room whole-house music system
- Source equipment for other TVs in the residence
Per the request of EHT, a quiet thermostatically controller exhaust fan was installed in the AV closet to remove any heat build-up from the equipment rack.
Interesting Fact
Jim Kluka, President of EHT received his Masters Degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT, just like Charles Duke, astronaut and 10th person to walk on the moon.
